Back to FAQ index Previous FAQ: Is EQ Just Another Catchy Marketing Phrase? What Can A South African Add To This American Concept? It's an interesting question. EQ speaks directly about the value of learning from our experiences and as South Africa has emerged from a level of change unprecedented in the world, the experiences we've had in coping with transformation have valuable applications elsewhere. In few places could it be more relevant than in South Africa that millions of people have felt immobilised because of a lack of education. The fact that EQ debunks the IQ / academia myth has provided a powerful message of hope to help uplift those who have been disadvantaged. This powerful need for healing was the motivating force behind the application of this material directly to personal growth. In many locations around the world the emphasis on EQ has been in education and organisational development. As a unique addition to the field of EQ I view the emotions as a powerful mechanism providing constant feedback about the choices we're making and the life we're leading. As such my book includes an emotional dictionary that decodes the specifics of our emotional language. By understanding what our emotions are communicating, we're able to improve the choices we make about our own lives. Also, I have chosen to adopt a more holistic view to EQ. As such elements like the power of the mind and spiritual intelligence (SQ) are included in my work. These elements uniquely cover aspects of our physical, mental and spiritual lives and show how these systems interact with our emotional system. But probably the biggest point of separation is being able to translate this theoretical body of work into a very practical, hands-on application. Both the book and my seminars are dedicated to experiential learning rather than intellectually grasping the material. This has ensured that the seminars produce results and a high percentage of delegates make dramatic shifts after attending these programmes. Next FAQ: How Do You Define Success?
